Will next season's Project Runway bring hot tubs, cat-fights and half-naked dance parties? If Real World producers Bunim-Murray close the deal to take on the show, it could. Admittedly, it's tough to picture Tim Gunn looking fiercely happy about a hot tub, but at the very least, the show could have a decidedly new vibe.According to Variety, the show's original producers are tied up with a production deal for NBC. Now that Runway's moving to Lifetime for Season 6, it needs a new team. With 21 years of the Real World under its belt, not to mention Living Lohan and Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Bunim-Murray's a veteran of the reality genre. This is the true story... of 85 Real World alums... picked to party in a house... and have it taped for an MTV special... to find out what happens when former reality-TV stars stop being polite... and start getting really drunk. It was clear from the beginning that this was going to be a wild event. Minutes before arrivals began, the sunny sky grew dark, a cold wind started to blow from the east and the heavens opened up to deliver a rare and unseasonable hailstorm. As stones bounced off the freshly laid red carpet, PAs scrambled to cover lights, mics and soundboards with plastic, and producers started to panic. The Real World Stops Being Polite, Starts Giving Awards | Today's News: Our Take | 2/12/2008
Admit it — deep inside you knew it was only a matter of time before reality TV swelled so far that the genre got its own award show. Well, that day has arrived. Sort of.The producers of MTV's The Real World basically created the genre, so it's only fitting that the same group is organizing a special called The Real World Awards Bash: Roast 'Em and Toast 'Em. The show will bring together the roommates from every season to hand out honors in multiple categories, including Best Meltdown, Favorite Love Story and Favorite Season. Categories and nominees will be announced today through Feb. 14 on TRL, and fans can vote at MTV.com until the end of the month. The awards will be handed out when the special airs Saturday, March 29.In addition to the awards, the cast members will look back at the most memorable moments from the show's 16-year history, as a buildup to the launch of the 20th season, The Real World: Hollywood, in April. —Adam Bryant read more
