Raising the Bar Episode Recap: "Beating a Dead Horse" Season 2, Episode 12

In the second-season finale, Jerry takes over one of Bobbi's cases involving a pregnant woman who is addicted to heroin, and Michelle is determined to keep her in jail so she doesn't continue shooting up to the harm of her unborn baby. Roz defends a man against charges of assaulting an officer and abusing a horse. Oh, and things between Jerry and Bobbi remain flawless.

The epsiode begins when Bobbi tells Edan Amante that she is charged with appearing in a public place under the influence of narcotics. Bobbi convinces her she won't do time and not to worry.

Roz questions a man who assaulted a cop to save his dying horse. Roz calls Marcus to try to make a deal, but he declines due to the severity of the charge.

Meanwhile, at the hearing for Bobbi's case, Michelle refuses to let the woman off the hook like the other women charged in the same incident stating she needs to "look into things." As a result, Ms. Amante is held on $1,000 bail.

Later that evening, Jerry asks Bobbi to dinner, and after accepting the offer, she asks him if she can unload some of her cases onto him, including Ms. Amante's. The two kiss and go to dinner (looking pretty happy together, I might add).

Michelle further investigates the case, hoping to find legitimate reasons to keep Ms. Amante behind bars until after the birth of her child. Balco tells her he admires her determination and gives her an idea. The next day, Michelle informs Judge Kessler and Jerry (who is now covering the case) that they are pursuing the case as a felony. Michelle also requests a bail increase, which Kessler sets at $2,500 dollars.

Afterwards, Michelle admits she isn't sure what the charge is yet when confronted by Jerry, and says it will most likely be "conspiracy."  Michelle says the client can take the deal of three months, which is probably two served. Michelle admits she wants Ms. Amante to have her baby in jail while under its treatment.

Meanwhile, Roz's client testifies about the horse's health at the time of the assault against the police officer.

Back at the bar, the crew discusses Michelle's case. Jerry tells her that he will be appealing the bail, which makes her angry.

At Jerry's apartment, Jerry and Bobbi continue to argue the case and Bobbi tells Jerry that he is going to need to be able to agree to disagree if their relationship is going to work. Their argument ends when Bobbi tells him to take his pants off if he's so "hot." (Clever!)

Kessler complains to Charlie about Jerry filing an appeal, and Charlie tells her she can't be mad at Jerry for calling her out on what she is in fact doing. Kessler tells Charlie to screw himself, and I begin to wonder why I ever liked her as a character.

Meanwhile, Roz and Marcus make their final statements and Roz's client is found not guilty for the animal cruelty offense, but guilty for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Jerry explains to a judge that Michelle is keeping Ms. Amante in jail to protect a fetus. He makes a great argument. Then, Balco states his case, which is strong as well.

Roz and Marcus meet with Judge Farnsworth to agree on the punishment. Farnsworth explains to the two his experience with horses and his understanding of the man's experience. He sentences him to only 90 days followed by probation. He also grants him with a Certificate of Relief, allowing him to get his license back when he is freed.

Ms. Amante then goes into labor and is rushed out of her cell. She gives birth right outside the courthouse on the stretcher. An EMT takes the baby away from her and Jerry is left dumbfounded at the sight. Michelle comes out and asks how she is doing, and tells Jerry she still believes this is the best outcome.

In the last scene, Bobbi meets with Jerry and says that although she knows they didn't agree on the facts of the case, she knew he would fight it as hard as he could, which is why she handed it over to him. So there it is, the second season of Raising the Bar comes to an end...with an episode that doesn't leave us questioning a single thing.

What do you think about this week's episode? Are you happy with Season 2 overall? What are you hoping will change its third season?
