The second season of Raising the Bar begins with the focus remaining, of course, on Jerry's greasy "Unabomber" hair style. The episode launches with a birthday documentary for Jerry, and the Marcus-made film ends with a celebration and an evident steamy continuing attraction between Jerry and Bobbi.
While Jerry advocates for a barber accused of permitting his nephew to sell drugs out of his barbershop, Roz begins working on cases again. She takes on a client named Miss Goslin, who is accused of attacking wealthy hockey mom Eileen Thomason with a hot dog. (Exciting!)
Meanwhile, Bobbi's divorce case lifts off, and her husband uses pictures of Bobbi and Jerry as blackmail to try to settle or get her to go home with him yet again. This forces Bobbi to "rain check" on her dinner date with Jerry out of fear that more pictures — and more implications — might materialize. I guess this season wouldn't be too exciting if they got together in the first episode.
Back at the criminal courts building, Jerry questions the jurors in his barbershop crack case, and one juror tells Jerry he looks sloppy and untrustworthy. According to this man, Jerry looks like a "dirty hippie." The next day, Michelle almost chokes on her coffee as Jerry makes a musical, dramatic, slow-motion entrance with his new hair cut! Take that, jury man.
Meanwhile, uptight Eileen Thomason drops assault charges on Miss Goslin when nine other mothers from the team signed papers saying Mrs. Thomason initiated the behavior and Goslin acted in self defense.
Jerry's case ends with the barber being acquitted, despite lying under oath to show his nephew that someone in his life does care enough about him to take the heat for him, no matter the cost.
As for the love story, Bobbi tells Jerry that she cares about him too much to let their relationship "be another thing that just falls apart." She ends things before they start and says that when she does start something with him, she doesn't ever want it to end. (Bad timing, yet again.) But hey, this seems to leave Michelle happy, as the show concludes with her throwing herself on Jerry at the bar. Is she good at looking desperate or what?
What did you think of the premiere? Do you think things between Michelle and Jerry will steam up as Bobbi remains determined to settle her divorce before starting up another love affair?
