In honor of the upcoming Black History Month, Alex Haley's 1993 conclusion to the epic Roots saga makes its way to DVD. A labor of love, Queen was based on the life story of Alex Haley's paternal grandmother and was the project he was working on at the time of his death. Queen, the daughter of a plantation owner and a slave woman, learns to make her way through an America torn apart by the Civil War and Reconstruction — and their aftermath. Idol's Bucky: Simon Says... Nothing Helpful

Despite some rockin' country (or is it countrified rock?) performances, North Carolinian Bucky Covington bottomed out last week on Fox's American Idol (Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 pm/ET) despite serving up a solid spin on Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls." Premise: Alex Haley's continuing saga of his ancestry (which began with `Roots') tells the story of his paternal grandmother, the daughter of a slave and a Civil War colonel. The miniseries is based on his unfinished last novel, which was completed by David Stevens following Haley's death in 1992.
