Gossip Girl Moves Out of Idol's Way, Plays with Dolls

Fearing that its beautifully trendy kids will get crushed by the American Idol juggernaut — and also looking to get the best play from an upcoming rash of strike-induced repeats — the CW is moving Gossip Girl to Mondays at 8 starting Jan. 28. The thinking is that while in reruns, the show might get exposed to a different crowd on a new night, thus broadening its reach. "There's great buzz and a great reaction to Gossip Girl," a CW scheduling exec explains to Variety. "Now we just want to grow the audience a bit."Serena, Blair and the bratty bunch won't be alone on Mondays for long. Starting Feb. 18, GG's lead-out will be Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, which will seek to form a brand-new (and presumably girlicious) girl band. One other major CW programming note: any remaining new Reaper episodes (there are two, by Ausiello's count) will piggyback Smallville starting Feb. 28. But don't fret, Supernatural fans — a CW rep assures me the series will be back Jan. 31, a... read more

Search for the Next Pussycat Doll Winner Asia Not Part of the Group

Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll was all for naught. CW president Dawn Ostroff shocked the Television Critics Association by confirming that the reality show’s winner Asia Nitollano is not part of the group. While gossip websites suggested Asia wasn’t up to the job, Ostroff insisted that Asia chose instead to pursue a solo career. But it’s clear that the show’s producers have reconsidered their concept. The next search will be for members of a new group, rather then competing for a chance to join the well-oiled PCD machine. — Reporting by Stephen Battaglio read more

April 24, 2007: And the Winner Is...

It's over, my friends. Pussycat Doll No. 7 has officially been named and, frankly, I'm a little shocked by the decision. Clearly, my favorite has been Chelsea for a while now. I thought Chelsea did great with the group track and was dead-on with the vocals on "Feelin' Good." But she was given the slowest song on the PCD disc to sing, meaning she really didn't have to dance. And as many times as her dancing was mentioned this season, you could see she wasn't going to win it. Now although Chelsea was my favorite, I did mention a few weeks ago that my pick to win it all was Melissa. And based on this episode, she should have. She was the perfect package. I thought her performance of "Stickwitu" was possibly her best of the entire show. The judges thought she was the whole package, except Ron thought she had a deer-in-headlights look. That must have been something we didn't see on camera, because it didn't look like that at all to me. And then there's Asia. She spent the entire episode ... read more

Reality Bites Twice for Doll Loser

Melissa S.

What would a show about the Pussycat Dolls be without quite a bit of catfighting? The most recent drama on The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll was stirred up when Melissa Smith made some catty comments about Chelsea's lack of dancing talent during an "interview" with host Mark McGrath. It seemed like karma came back to haunt Melissa, who was ousted before the less-skilled dancer Chelsea. But Melissa, who was also a finalist on Making the Band 3, says that she's not the vicious gal she was made out to be. TVGuide.com: I felt really bad for you after Ron Fair's comment that you were "sexy, Vegas-y white trashy."Mel read more

April 17, 2007: Don't Know Why

Didn't Chelsea look hot tonight?Sorry, had to get that out of my system. This is Angel Cohn, and I was doing my best to channel normal PCD blogger Dave Steed. My personal favorite got kicked off last week: I loved Anastacia and all that sexy hair and her sort of atypical look. That said, I actually do like Chelsea, and I felt bad for her when Melissa S. was picking on her and laughing every time that Mikey critiqued her. That's just not nice. I think Miss Melissa learned that reality-TV karma comes back to bite… and hard. Melissa S. does have the dance moves. She was banging it out in front of the mirror on her own. But she got more screen time for her mean comments and her vicious little interview session with Mark McGrath than her actual dancing. I was far more impressed by Robin Antin's abs during the choreography session. Damn! I'm not entirely sure how old Robin is, but I'd love to have abs like that at some point in my life. Unfortunately, I'm way less coordinated than po... read more

Mane Event Is Over for Pussycat Dolls' Lioness

Anastacia McPherson, The Search for the Next Doll

Anastacia McPherson made a big impression on a lot of people during her stint on the CW's Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET, encoring Wednesdays at 9). Her height, deep voice and hugely sexy hair made her stand out from the masses of tiny girls. But the judges ultimately decided that she lacked self-confidence. This TVGuide.com reporter was delighted to talk with our favorite PCD wannabe and gush a bit about her teased tresses. TVGuide.com: Did you have a good experience? Anastacia McPherson: It was amazing. It was unbelievable, but it was really stressful, too. TVGuide.com: You were learning choreography on a bus and crazy stuff like that, all in a short period of time. Anastacia: It was insane the amount of time t read more

April 10, 2007: Close to the Heart

Boob pads?Oh sure, I know there are gel inserts a lady can pop into her dress to make her look bigger than she is, but I’ve never really heard them called “boob pads” before. Has Melissa R. been using boob pads this whole time, but not tonight? Has she been duping me this whole time? And how many other girls on the show are doing it? Any of the actual Pussycat Dolls? Eh, it’s not like I’m getting to see them after the show, so I guess it really doesn’t matter as long as these enhancements make the girls look sexy. Mikey seemed to be interested in these enlargers, too. “If I had boobs, it would make me feel more feminine.” Mikey, buddy, that's one thing you definitely don't need to be. I’m sorry to be touting my girl Chelsea every week here, but I love watching this semi-feud between her and Melissa S. I don’t know if I get what Melissa was saying with “if there were two of Chelsea.” The girls seemed a little confused themse... read more

Mariela Defends Her Less-than-purrfect Pussycat Bid

Mariela Arteaga, The Search for the Next Doll

Learning hot dance moves while on a moving bus to perform "Tainted Love" on stage at the Las Vegas Pussycat Doll Lounge? No problem for Mariela Arteaga. Hitting all the notes in Christina Aguilera's "I Turn to You" for the judges, however, proved to be an issue, forcing Mariela to hang up her boa on the CW's Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET). TVGuide.com spoke with the slinky feline dancer to find out how she mastered the moves for her partner dance and what she really thought of her rendition of the X-tina hit. TVGuide.com: The sexy "partners" dance challenge you won, that dance was hot! What was your inspiration?Mariela Arteaga: Thank you! I didn't have an inspiration read more
