So Robyn thought tonight's episode was just OK. Wait, what's that? You don't want Robyn to do the entire blog in third person? Yeah you're right, we get enough from Suede to suffice. His fellow contestants really need to call him out more on it, but I digress.
So in tonight's episode, Tim took the designers on what they thought would be a fun night out on the town, but of course it only led to their challenge aboard a New York City Sights tour bus. They each got out at designated locations where they searched for inspiration for a design that would be perfect for a New York night on the town. In theory, I liked the idea of this, but it certainly seemed like something we've seen before in previous seasons. Some designers immediately took the challenge literally by snapping an object such as a clock or fire hydrant. Others were more creative and caught interesting, out-of-the-box shots.
After a quick trip to Mood, the designers headed back at Parsons to start their creations. And I can't go any further without commenting on the tan-addict himself, Blayne. How strange was it when he was staring at Kinley, mumbling something like "Eat you" with big bug-eyes. Talk about crazy-licious. Everyone also seemed to be ripping on each other more than usual, but maybe that's because none of the designs were stellar.
Tim made his usual rounds and expressed concerned with Jennifer's skirt. My first thought, who's Jennifer? I knew she was in trouble when she appeared an awful lot this episode after being virtually non-existent. The best part of the night had to have been when Blayne explained to Tim the true meaning of "Holla at yo boy." "Is it Holler or Holla?" Classic Tim Gunn right there.
Before the runway show, it was revealed that tonight's judge was... wait for it (and I know you're excited about this one)Sandra Bernhard! Heidi introduced her as a "New York nightlife aficionado" but somehow I just didn't see why
Project Runway would go from
Natalie Portman to
There wasn't much to say about the show as a whole. Sure, nothing was heinous, but at the same rate, nothing truly stood out either. I did enjoy Michael Kors describing Kinley's dress as 80's power bitch. He then followed up in true MK fashion by calling Keith's frock "toilet paper caught in a windstorm." Nina called Jennifer's dress boring while Heidi said it was matronly. And in another
Project Runway first, Nina actually had "no comment" in regards to Emily's dress. Ouch. In the end Kinley won (though I do have to give Leanne props for redeeming herself with that pretty sweet skirt and top outfit). It came down to Emily and Jennifer, and I was pretty surprised that Emily was ultimately Auf'd. Do you feel the same?
