Premise: A riveting eight-part history of the world oil industry, based on Daniel Yergin's Pulitzer-winning book, focuses on the ways petroleum has significantly shaped the economy and society. It begins with the emergence of John D. Rockefeller and Standard Oil in the late 19th century, and concludes by surveying `The New Order of Oil' in an age of mounting environmental concerns and regulations. Yergin provides commentary throughout, as do historians, biographers and people in the oil business.
