Premise: Four guests and Bill Maher (playing host and devil's advocate) engage in roundtable discussions of a number of topical issues (politics, not surprisingly, loom large). The conversation is sometimes heated, sometimes hilarious, but rarely dull. The series began on cable's Comedy Central in 1994 and moved to ABC four years later. The outspoken host made what some construed as `unpatriotic' remarks following Sept. 11, and his show was canned not long after.
