I feel like I'm sailing in the choppy seas right along with these pirates. I'm up. I'm down. I'm up again. That's due mostly to the introduction of strategy to this game, and we have Jay to thank for that. Here is a man who understands the pirate way. I totally love how he used his gold (and is used by it) to buy Sean's vote. Unfortunately for Jay, Sean was willing to be bought but not willing to follow through. I'm getting ahead of myself because unless you didn't actually watch the show - and there are those who threatened to do just that - you might not know that there's a new captain aboard and his name is Azmyth. Less dramatic than a mutiny but just as effective is the red crew winning immunity - whoops did I say that? I mean they found yet another sunken treasure and so won the challenge. Since the captain is always on the black crew, that means that Joe Don was out of a job. The challenge involved a long boat, a trek through the woods, a bamboo-stalk sabotage, a swim across some rapids and a dive beneath a waterfall. Details not necessary. I need to talk about Louie for a sec. Louie was on the winning crew and actually found the key-holding skull, so I'll give him that but I have to say this man is all talk. (And it does seem as if he is constantly chattering.) He's been going on about mutiny since the first episode and was most vocal before Christian was set adrift about saving his buddy and axing Joe Don. However, I don't recall seeing one vote cast for mutiny so I am not impressed by Louie's crocodile tears over the loss of a friend for whom he did nothing to save. I also need to mention the prechallenge makeup session. I laughed out loud. Can't you just see true pirates putting on their faces before a raid? Anyway, the red crew: Kendra, Jupiter, Nessa, Azmyth, Louie, Christa and Jay all felt that Azmyth was the most capable and the best leader and so they elected him captain. He in turn chose Jupiter and Jay as his officers. Unlike Joe Don, who had been relegated to sleeping with the crew, Captain Az chose to split the $35,000 treasure equally. While Jay wasn't too thrilled about that, his biggest protest was against Azmyth's sudden acquisition of a British accent. It even surprised host Cameron Daddo, who thankfully pointed it out at pirate's court. Affectation aside, Azymth, with the hat, his long blond locks and unique facial hair, actually looks the part of a pirate captain. Or maybe I've seen Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest one too many times. Under new leadership, former officer Cheryl, Laurel and Alexis received black marks. Cheryl made it clear in her confessionals that her occupation as a district attorney has prepared her for pirate court, leaving me to wonder just what kind of law she practices. Alexis' constant whining and aimless wandering during the challenge put her on the block. Laurel? Well she lives in a van. That's all I got. With eight votes cast, the crew was split down the middle between Alexis and Cheryl, which meant that Azmyth got to cast the deciding vote. He stroked his beard. He cocked an eyebrow and in the queen's English he sent Alexis on her way. So Joe Don and his former officers made the cut. Sean reneged on a deal with Jay to vote out Cheryl and we had no histrionics from Joy. Overall not a bad episode. - Points to Joe Don for standing up for his officer Cheryl at Pirates Court. - Points to anyone who can explain what Alexis was doing wandering around in the water. - Um, Azmyth said "dandy" to his officers while divvying up the money. Dandy. - Is it me or were the moments when Jay, without his head wrap, looked like Robbie Rotten from Lazytown? For more cool footage of Pirate Master, check out our Online Video Guide. show less
