Okay, this show is beat. Right from the start. Seriously, was that the longest recap ever? And can somebody tell me, 'cuz I'm not sure I heard it right the first five times, but was Joe Don in the military? And what's up with choosing Sean as the cook based on his bartending skills? From where I'm sitting, Sean can't cook. It's like Keith with the rice on Survivor: Outback. Was Sean seasoning the gruel with his hair? Was that his secret ingredient? I don't how long the crew is going to last on those vittles. Azmyth is already some kind of skinny. What about this triathlon cloaked in a challenge? Were those snakes really poisonous or were they trained circus snakes? I say that as if I know anything about circus snakes. They kept snapping at the camera for effect, did you notice? I didn't see any sharks in the shark-infested water either. So, was that just a Pirate trick? You know, like a lie? Back to the challenge black and red crews. I guess being a pirate means nothing's ever fair. The captain's always on the black crew and if there's an uneven number, the black crew gets the extra man. Guess what? The black crew won! The suspense was killing me. NOT. And I have to say sabotage loses some of its sabotage-ness when it's expected. Heck, when it's marked on the map. Is there some reason that the red crew couldn't just go around the big ball of thorns that was in their way? It wasn't like they were squeezing through a canyon or something. Besides, Joy's injury did more damage to the red crew than the big ball of thorns. I missed the actual fall, but could Joy be more dramatic? The label says she is a receptionist but I'm taking that as the equivalent of a waitress in New York. This aspiring actress seems to be a graduate of the Overacting School of Acting. If you doubt me, think back to last week's reaction to her first black mark (Oops, did I give something away? My bad.) when she threw her hands up in the air and declared with a pained look on her face that she wasn't going to give up. OK, Joy. Even tonight Joy swore she was going to keep on fighting. What are you fighting, Joy? I don't get it. And where'd you get that ace bandage? One minute she's in the woods on Sean's back and then she's being hoisted aboard the ship and her knee is wrapped up. Ancient pirate secret. Onto the money part: JD took his 22 grand. He opted to keep his officers rather than choose new ones and spread the money around, so Ben and Cheryl again got some booty and the rest of the poor suckers got a pittance. I'll give JD a little credit for learning on the job. He decided to share some loot with the losers. Two hundred bucks. That made them feel special for sure. Meanwhile he's crowing about paying off his credit cards. I'm with Alexis on this one. Keep your measly $200! It's almost funny how JD has become the method Pirate. He is a pirate; he's not playing one on TV. He's even bribing his boatswain. "I'm not buying you, I'm rewarding you." Yeah, that's called a bribe, and Jay knows it. So it's black-mark time and those chosen for pirate's court are Joy, Christian and Kendra, who has washers hanging from her hair. (All the cool pirates are doing it!) Joy showcased her miraculously healed knee further proof of her earlier acting. Kendra said something... I can't even remember what. Christian tried to incite a mutiny and run for captain at the same time on a platform of share and share alike. It didn't work. The crew voted Christian out. Why? Why didn't they mutiny?! They were all complaining about their conditions, but when it came time to do something, they all voted out the one guy who promised them money. What kind of pirate pansies are these? I want a little Arrgh in this show. Instead I get Cameron Daddo doing his best Tyra Banks impression. "In my hand I hold nine ballots...." The next name that he was going to call would have to toss him-/herself onto a raft and be cut adrift. Le sigh. There's something missing on this show. Here we are at the second episode and I'm wondering about its future. The intro states how one by one the pirates will be cut loose until there's only one pirate master, but at some point you're going to need people to sail this ship so how can this work out? And the mutiny process: Why does it have to be a unanimous vote? How often do you get a sweep on a reality show? Hell, it took Survivor until this season to do that. I'll give the show one thing: The ship is gorgeous and it looks like it would be such fun to sail the high seas on it. But alas maties, I fear for the viewership and I wonder if the show continues on this course, will it, too, be set adrift? What did you think? Does Pirate Master have the chops to last all summer? Are we just in the unsettled waters of the early episodes? Was Christian cut loose too soon? For more cool footage of Pirate Master check out our Online Video Guide. show less
