Jaleel White on Playing Steve Urkel: "I Didn't Know What the Heck I Was Doing"

Family Matters

In 1989, ABC premiered the Perfect Strangers spin-off Family Matters, which featured a relatively unknown cast. Although the series focused on a middle-class African American family in Chicago, the breakout star was the Winslows' annoyingly dorky neighbor, Steve Urkel. Twenty years later, Jaleel White, who played Urkel, still looks back at the show that catapulted him into stardom with fond memories and says that, yes, people still ask him to do the famous "Urkel" voice. The 33-year-old spoke to TVGuide.com about his favorite memories from his nine seasons on the show, the first season of which is in stores on DVD Tuesday.

That Balki Is Such a Pimp

Perfect Strangers

Today's Video Break: Perfect StrangersEpisode Title: "First Date"Season: 1Year: 1986Why we love this episode: You'll always remember your first date — especially if it entails sheep jokes and the "dance of joy." When cousin Larry decides to double-date with Balki for Balki's first real outing with a female, he bestows a few pointers on the Meepos native. Honestly, we were kinda feelin' Balki's dropping-at-women's-feet tactic — definitely don't see that at the bars these days!Watch it now!Your take: What's your favorite Larry and Balki moment? read more

"Too many damn frogs in this film," scoffed Jared, who with Jacob turned 5 on Tuesday.Elsewhere, DVD releases have been set for The Bourne Ultimatum (Dec. 11), Resident Evil: Extinction (Jan. 1), Barney & Friends: Celebrating Around the World (Jan. 29, 2008) and Perfect Strangers: The Complete First and Second Season (Feb. 28) — and yes, I shall be ridiculous, thank you. read more

Premise: Balki, a naive Mediterranean immigrant, lands on the Chicago doorstep of his distant cousin Larry, making for culture-clash situations that had plenty of slapstick. Larry was high-strung and cynical; Balki, the former shepherd, was wide-eyed and eternally optimistic. The series spun off `Family Matters.'
