Paul Reubens on Pee-Wee's Comeback: I'll Still Be Doing This 30 Years From Now

The iconic grey suit and red bowtie have returned: Pee-wee Herman is back and heading to HBO for a special filmed presentation of his Broadway show, The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway.

The 90-minute comedy show is not unlike an extended version of his Emmy-winning Pee-wee's Playhouse series, which ran for four years on CBS. Pee-wee ran in Los Angeles a year ago and is currently playing in New York's Stephen Sondheim Theatre, where it has been met with favorable reviews.

Pee-wee Herman Is Heading to HBO

Pee-wee Herman is heading to HBO with a special that will present his Broadway show, the network announced Tuesday.

HBO will shoot the Paul Reubens production in January following its Broadway engagement that runs through Jan. 2. The special, titled The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway, will debut in 2011.

Pee-wee Herman is getting ready for his next big adventure: Broadway.

Pee-wee, aka known as Paul Rebuens, will start his six-week run at the Stephen Sondheim Theater in New York starting Oct. 26, according to Broadwayworld.com.

Premise: Zany fun with hyper, nerdy Pee-wee Herman, who presented animated shorts and live-action sketches featuring a cast of whimsical characters. Although the Emmy-winning show was aimed at kids, it attracted nearly as many adults, who enjoyed its campy quality. The merriment came to an end in July 1991 when Paul Reubens was arrested for indecent exposure in a Florida movie theater and his show was canceled immediately.
