Weekend TV Roundup: A Thick Satire, Good Wife Finale, a Marvel-ous EPIX Weekend, More

The Thick of It

Timing is everything. Which may help explain why, after a nearly three-year delay, BBC America is finally importing the third season (from 2009) of the blistering political satire The Thick of It to its "Ministry of Laughs" weekend franchise (Saturday, midnight/11c) — on the heels of HBO's launch of Veep, which springs from the same demented imagination of dark farceur Armando Iannucci.

Premise: Middle-aged Indianapolis divorcée Ann Romano raised two strong-willed teenage daughters in this long-running Norman Lear-developed sitcom, a consistent Top 20 series that tackled topical family issues in a candid, straightforward manner. Most of the laughs were generated by Schneider, a tattooed, tool-belt-wearing building superintendent who fancied himself a Lothario. Pat Harrington Jr. won an Emmy in the role and stayed with the show for its nine years.
