Dr. Mehmet Oz
If you're in an emergency room and think you're about to die, maybe your last wish should be that Dr. Mehmet Oz passes through. It happens to a young man — writhing in agony after his aorta tears — on Thursday's season premiere of NY Med (June 26, 10/9c, ABC). Oz is back in action in the eight-part summer series from ABC News that takes viewers on an emotionally intense journey through New York-Presbyterian and other Manhattan-based hospitals. The show will also cross the Hudson River for a look inside University Hospital, which serves the rough streets of Newark, N.J. NY Med executive producer Terence Wrong offers some insights on what's coming up.
ABC has announced its summer lineup, including the premiere of The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, Mistresses, and new shows Rising Star and The Quest.
With a heavy reality TV lineup, ABC plans to launch The Quest, an adventure series from the Lord of the Rings producers, on Thursday, June 19. Singing competition show Rising Star will bow on Sunday, June 22. As previously announced, The Bachelorette returns on May 19 with the series' latest spin-off, Bachelor in Paradise, debuting Monday, August 4.

Question: Frankly, the Emmys should just be the Cable Television Awards now, and they can have a "special mention" category for everything on broadcast. I don't have cable, I don't want cable, and I haven't seen any of the nominees from cable. There just isn't enough room these days for the leftovers, no matter how good broadcast shows may be, so there's not much point watching the awards. — ACS
Our top moments of the week:
13. Hardest Problem: On the series premiere of NY Med, an unidentified male visiting New York City goes to the hospital after having an erection for 12 hours as the result of taking an erectile-dysfunction drug. The urologist explains that the only solution is to drain blood from his penis. "Have you done this before?" the man asks, before exclaiming, "We should YouTube this!" The real kicker? He comes in with a guy he had met the night before at a club.
