An examination of the National Security Agency, the intelligence body that intercepts communications, including its alleged failures prior to 9/11 and its eavesdropping practices since. It also questions whether the agency's approach is overly broad, as the cacophony of unimportant information intercepted may drown out critical intelligence, and features interviews with former FBI, CIA and NSA officials. Written by James Bamford, whose 2008 book "The Shadow Factory" mined the same ground.
