Season 29, Episode 14 Sinking City of Venice

First Aired: November 19, 2002

The hour surveys the corrosive effects of saltwater on its historic buildings. (Venice was founded, 1600 years ago, on easily flooded islands because they were defensible.) And it examines the pros and cons of a proposed mobile gate system to keep the Adriatic at bay. “Eventually,” says Kohn, “something will have to give.”
