Season 28, Episode 10 Nazi Prison Escape

Former British POWs recall efforts---some of them ingenious---to break out of Colditz Castle in Germany. Supposedly impregnable, Colditz housed “troublesome” prisoners. “Unwittingly,” says narrator Roy Scheider, “the Germans created an 'escape academy'.” The most audacious plan: “Just stand on the roof [300 feet off the ground] and jump off,” says one POW. So they built a glider to do just that. The war ended before they had a chance to fly it, but a re-creation of the glider they built is tested here.
