Charting the six-year search for the identity of a sunken World War II German U-boat discovered off the coast of New Jersey in 1991. “It took us longer to identify this wreck than it did to fight the war,” says diver John Chatterton. The program also sketches the history of submarine warfare (and German U-boats in particular), looks for reasons why this U-boat (U-869) went down and what it was doing off the U.S. coast (869 was presumed to have been lost off Morocco). Roy Scheider narrates.
