Season 28, Episode 2 Holocaust on Trial

Is British author David Irving (“Hitler's War”) a historian or a “falsifier of history”? That's the question a British judge must decide in this episode, which re-creates the landmark libel case Irving brought against author Deborah Lipstadt after she had called him a “Holocaust denier” in her 1993 book “Denying the Holocaust.” Under British law, the burden is on her to prove that he “knowingly distorted the historical record,” says narrator Ian Holm. The judge was persuaded. Irving is, he said, “an active Holocaust denier.”
