Season 27, Episode 5 Secrets of Lost Empires: Pharaoh's Obelisk

In Part 2 of five, engineers and historians speculate on how ancient Egyptians transported and raised an obelisk. Then they try it themselves. The “giant needles of stone” from the Middle Kingdom era run up to 100 foot high and weigh up to 500 tons. But the obelisk that the “Nova” team (also included are a boat expert and a sculptor, plus laborers) tries to raise weighs just 30 tons. They fail. Still, “we know it can be done,” says sculptor Rick Brown before starting anew in the U.S. Stacy Keach narrates.
