Ex-`Maverick' star James Garner plays the reluctant sheriff of a rowdy town in 1914 Arizona. Like his previous series, this one was long on sly humor and played on the lead character's attempts to make a quick, easy buck. The show's title was changed to `James Garner as Nichols' in hopes of luring more viewers, but it didn't help.
