NCIS Boss Wants Bob Newhart to Win His First Emmy

If it's hard for you to believe that legendary TV funnyman Bob Newhart has never won an Emmy, don't worry: NCIS executive producer Gary Glasberg says he has trouble wrapping his head around that, too.

On the set: NCIS welcomes Bob Newhart

But Glasberg hopes that will soon change. Newhart, best known for his eponymous sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, guest-starred on NCIS last season as Dr. Walter Magnus, a former NCIS medical examiner who trained David McCallum's Ducky. "We came up with a list of actors that we thought that would be perfect for it," Glasberg says... read more

On the Set: NCIS Welcomes Bob Newhart

Shooting a scene in the autopsy lab on the NCIS set, Bob Newhart looks a bit absentminded, and an interloper might not know whether to chuckle. The TV legend is playing Dr. Walter Magnus, who preceded Ducky (David McCallum) as the unit's medical examiner. Newhart's hesitancy in responding isn't far off from the trademark stammer he made into a science on two of TV's most beloved sitcoms, The Bob Newhart Show (1972-78) and Newhart (1982-90). Since NCIS is a drama in touch with its lighter side, you might guess the visiting icon was cast in "Recruited" to capitalize on his levity. Not so. The former doc... read more

In Focus: NCIS' Michael Weatherly is happy being the second banana

Newhart, 81, will play Dr. Walter Magnus, an eccentric-but-charming medical examiner who comes out of retirement to help the NCIS team, according to Entertainment Weekly, which first reported the news. He'll work closely with the team's resident ME Ducky (David McCallum).

Newhart, best known for his sitcoms The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, has also appeared... read more

Premise: The comedian brings his trademark gentle humor to his role as a Vermont innkeeper in this affable, long-running series, which premiered four years after his six-year stint with 'The Bob Newhart Show.'The eccentric supporting characters include a dim-witted handyman; a pretentious debutante maid; and three backwoods brothers named Larry, Darryl and Darryl (the Darryls never spoke).
