Season 18, Episode 13 Obsession With Orchids
First Aired: April 16, 2000
Orchids “have a genius all their own,” says narrator Stockard Channing. A manifestation of that is their “ability” to fascinate people, as this survey of the entrancing flower attests. The hour includes a visit to the 1999 World Orchid Show in Vancouver, where one man confesses to “orchidism.” Orchids are also seen in their natural habitats in Central America, Thailand and the Caribbean, where 60,000 species and hybrids attract insects---and sometimes humans---to assist their pollination.
