An Emmy-winning, richly photographed and reported exploration of the world's natural wonders, produced by the National Geographic Society. In June 2003, it took the title `National Geographic Ultimate Explorer,' adding culture and politics to the mix. In January 2005, its title was changed once again, to simply `Explorer.'

Photographer Joel Sartore travels to the Katmai Peninsula in Alaska to document grizzly bears in their natural habitat. Also: “mother bear man” Ben Kilham follows up on three bear cubs that he raised before releasing them into the wild; and a profile of Doug Seus, a bear trainer whose animals have appeared in such films as “Legends of the Fall” and “The Great Outdoors.”
