An Emmy-winning, richly photographed and reported exploration of the world's natural wonders, produced by the National Geographic Society. In June 2003, it took the title `National Geographic Ultimate Explorer,' adding culture and politics to the mix. In January 2005, its title was changed once again, to simply `Explorer.'

An expedition travels into Carabaya, an isolated region of Peru that will be transformed when a new highway makes travel in and out of the area much easier. Also: the cameras capture the elusive jaguar of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil; and the man-eating pigs of Madidi National Park in Bolivia are spotlighted.
