An Emmy-winning, richly photographed and reported exploration of the world's natural wonders, produced by the National Geographic Society. In June 2003, it took the title `National Geographic Ultimate Explorer,' adding culture and politics to the mix. In January 2005, its title was changed once again, to simply `Explorer.'

United Snakes of America; Arkansas Anaconda?

First Aired: January 21, 2001

The complicated relationship between Americans and snakes is chronicled, from West Texans' annual rattlesnake hunt to the National Reptile Breeders Expo, where snake lovers fear for the creatures' future. Also: a visit to an Arkansas community that is allegedly being terrorized by a giant green anaconda. The cameras accompany local herpetologists, police officers and reporters as they attempt to capture the reptile.
