The TV yule log has become an unlikely holiday hit across the country every Christmas morning, as TV stations crank up the holiday tunes and keep their cameras trained on a crackling fireplace for hours on end. This year, The Hub Network is enlisting its cult-fave cartoon, My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, to put a twist on the tradition.

This weekend, more than 6,000 attendees are expected at BronyCon, the largest convention for My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fans, most of whom are young adult males. Since the revamped series debuted on The Hub in October 2010, it has developed a devoted following outside its intended demographic of girls ages 2 to 11. These unexpected fans, known as bronies, have grown into a diverse and impassioned community, united over one thing: a sincere love of ponies.
There's nothing ironic or perverse about bronies, though at first mention one might assume so. But this hesitation is understandable. Even a lot of bronies were reluctant to start watching the series. "I actually didn't like it the first time I saw it," explains Sethisto, who runs the popular pony site Equestria Daily.
The key word for the next season of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is "more."
At the packed Comic-Con panel for The Hub's cult-favorite cartoon series, story editor Meghan McCarthy revealed that Season 4 will feature more songs and more opportunities for the second tier characters to get screentime. And although new episodes won't premiere until the winter, the bronies and pegasisters present were in good spirits after an impromptu sing-along of the theme song and an exclusive four-minute look at unfinished animatics.
