A Message to Game of Thrones Haters

Emilia Clarke

Are you baffled by the love for Game of Thrones?

The fantasy drama has been an unqualified success for HBO, but even as it's entering the home stretch of its third season, not everybody is on board the Westerosi train. Take, for example, this Thrillist writer who insists that women hate Game of Thrones. Crazy as Mad King Aerys, right?

As bona fide women, TVGuide.com's Hanh Nguyen and Sadie Gennis (of the Game of Thrones By the Book chat series) would like to very respectfully discuss some of the biggest issues that the detractors have with the series. read more

TCA Critic's Notebook: A Tale of Two Networks — PBS and Fox

Hugh Bonneville

It's awfully early for the summer TCA press tour — which began over the weekend, and continues through next week — to have peaked. It's even more rare for an entity like PBS to steal the bigger, richer, more hype-heavy broadcast networks' thunder.

But it's hard to imagine any single event, or show, generating a more enthusiastic, jubilant vibe during the annual gathering of the Television Critics Association than the opening night party in honor of Downton Abbey, perfectly timed to celebrate the period drama's astounding 16 Emmy nominations. read more

My mother told me my favorite ...

Question: My mother told me my favorite show when I was little was the children's show Pinwheel. I don't remember anything about it. Could you fill me in? It was probably around 1984-87, but I am not sure. Thanks.

Answer: If the show was your favorite, you're certainly not alone, Julie — the show stands out in the memory of many a Gen-Xer. Pinwheel began life in Columbus, Ohio, in 1979 on The Pinwheel Channel, which featured the show five hours a day. I'm betting, however, that you didn't catch it until at least a year later, when that channel went national as Nickelodeon. Nick, which would go on to become the children's juggernaut it is today, kept Pinwheel on its schedule until 1989.

Much like Sesame Street and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood before it, Pinwheel f read more

Premise: The genial, soft-spoken man made every day `special' and every kid welcome in this long-running series. Once described as `a singing psychiatrist for children,' Rogers used puppetry, songs and storytelling to teach youngsters about family values and how to deal with life's ups and downs. Rogers, an ordained Presbyterian minister, was a beloved mainstay of PBS's daytime lineup and received a long-overdue Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series.
