TV Guide Magazine's 60 Greatest TV Animals of All Time

Turns out, it really is a dog's life. Canines dominate the latest list in TV Guide Magazine's 60th anniversary celebration, taking three of the top five spots and 20 places overall. Premise: The hit sitcom about a talking palomino (voice of former cowboy star Allan `Rocky' Lane) and his young owner, Wilbur Post, was a galloping success (of course, of course). The series began in syndication in January 1961 and trotted onto the CBS schedule in October of that year, running until September 1965. In an interview, Alan Young, who played Wilbur, revealed that the horse chewed peanut butter to make it look like he was talking.
