Twentieth Century TV has until June 30 to salvage Miss Guided, which didn't make ABC's fall slate, but in case it was not meant to be, Judy Greer has a Plan B in place. Question: Do you think ABC dropped the ball by airing all seven episodes of Miss Guided in the space of a three-week period instead of giving it a chance to thrive? I really think that if this show had been paired on Mondays with Samantha Who?, it could have been a moderate hit for the network. Both Samantha and Miss Guided are quirky and have currents of dark humor flowing through them. Miss Guided is not one of the best shows I have seen lately, but I actually found myself enjoying Judy Greer's overly optimistic yet still snarky commentary on her job. ABC has done a wonderful job lately of creating and promoting its excellent slate of hour-long dramas such as Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters and Ugly Betty, but when it comes to its 30-minute comedies (Cavemen, Carpoolers, According to Jim), the quality is remarkably lower. I really think Miss Guided had a nice premise and could have been something to build on. It probably would've never have been as ... read more

Question: I was wondering what your thoughts were on Miss Guided. I've watched all the episodes so far and have found it smart, funny and very enjoyable. I feel like I haven't heard a lot about it in the media, though. Did it pull in good ratings? I'm assuming once Ugly Betty returns, ABC is not planning to keep it on Thursday nights — which is fine by me since that night is already crowded enough with good TV. Does the show have a chance? Answer: Blink and you’ll miss this one, especially with ABC’s curious strategy of airing it back-to-back on Thursdays for just a few weeks. If my calendar's correct, Miss Guided's season finale is this Thursday . I reviewed it recently with more props to the star, Judy Greer, than to the show, which I found very cute but not particularly special. Still, I’d love to see how it would fare if paired with the still-promising Samantha Who? These are not shows that will turn a network’s fortunes around, but they do bring a smile to the face. And on ABC ... read more

Cheers: Miss Guided's Comic Missile

Cheers to Chris Parnell for his scene-stealing turn in Miss Guided. As power-drunk vice principal Bruce Terry, the Saturday Night Live alum wrings consistent laughs from the freshman ABC sitcom's uneven scripts: His character's man-crush on soulful substitute teacher Beaux (Ashton Kutcher) was downright hysterical. (Parnell's also brilliant as a juice-sipping poker genius in the just-released big-screen comedy The Grand.) I just hope this new TV gig doesn't mean we've seen the last of Parnell's delirious 30 Rock quack, Dr. Leo Spaceman. • For more on Miss Guided, check out the new Cheers & Jeers vodcast.• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine! read more
