Giles travels to Philadelphia on a mission to discover whether the city's food scene is ready to step out of New York City's shadow and shed its blue-collar reputation. Among the places he and dining guest Ed Rendell visit are vegan restaurant Vedge; Cheu Noodle Bar, an Asian/Jewish fusion spot; the Mildred, a rustic French eatery; the Avenue Delicatessen in Lansdowne, Pa.; and Kanella, which specializes in Mediterranean cuisine.
