Violent tales of the hard-boiled hero of Mickey Spillane's popular private-eye novels, slammed by TV Guide in a 1958 review that said it `could easily be the worst show on TV.' Today, with episode titles like `Dead Men Don't Dream,' `The High Cost of Dying' and `Crepe for Suzette,' it's become the stuff of parody. There are murders and fistfights galore, with cases involving gangs, beatniks (this was, after all, the '50s), jukebox vendors and, of course, lots of beautiful dames.
