Episode Synopsis: The Season 3 opener spotlights American musicals with help from Stephen Sondheim, who shares film of the original Broadway production of "Follies"; Christine Ebersole, who sings classic show tunes; and Angela Lansbury, who reflects on her Broadway career, including her stints in "Mame," "Sweeney Todd" and "Gypsy." Feinstein also discusses his friendship with with Ira Gershwin and performs "Lullaby of Broadway," "Let Me Entertain You" and "No One Is Alone."

Premise: A history of American popular music through the eyes of vocalist Michael Feinstein, featuring his interpretations of classic songs, stories of the songwriters and entertainers he's worked with. The series follows him on tour and into attics, basements and flea markets in search of treasures from the bygone age, and includes audio and film footage, as well as past and present performances of songs.
