She brings a certain je ne sais quoi to the show, giving the writers a larger degree of creative license. As much as we enjoyed Sean Astin, we can't imagine him pulling off lines like, "What light through yonder bush breaks?" like Channing did in episode 2. HBO’s crisply told, colorfully acted Recount wants to be both legal thriller and nightmare farce as it recounts, with news footage and dramatic re-creation, the cliff-hanger aftermath in Florida of the 2000 “squeaker” election between George W. Bush and Al Gore (both mostly off camera).
It has its moments, but can’t help but pale next to our own vivid memories of what it was actually like to live through those 36 days of volatile uncertainty. While the combatants regard the debacle over voting irregularities as a “street fight for the presidency,” the movie often feels like an inner-circle wonkfest: All the Would-Be President’s Lawyers.

Watched by more than four million people, one of TV's most addictive soap operas and Animal Planet's current No. 1 series, Meerkat Manor (8:30 pm/ET), ends its third season tonight. "In the finale... there is turmoil in the Kalahari, there's turmoil with the Whiskers and there will be some new groups surprising everybody [and] coming to the forefront," says executive producer Mick Kaczorowski. "It's not quite certain whether or not Rocket Dog, who right now is taking over the role of dominant female, [is] going to be strong enough to lead the Whiskers." Asked if Flower's tragic death, witnessed by viewers on Sept. 28, could break up the family, Kaczorowski answers, "Most likely not, because of how strong a leader she was and what a good mother she was — she passed on those traits." Question: I was kind of shocked last Friday night when a reality-TV star actually died (not acting pretend-dying); it was filmed, and there weren't any spoiler alerts on TVGuide.com. Of course I'm talking about Flower the Meerkat and her death after being bit by a cobra on Meerkat Manor. It was your rave reviews that got me to watch the meerkats on Friday nights and now I've made it a season pass. I'm gonna miss her. I don't see any strong female Whiskers that are capable of filling her shoes (paws/claws).
Answer: Yes, a moment of silence for dear, departed Flower. I admit I missed this one on the first airing and am hoping to catch up this week. I love Meerkat Manor, but this summer and early fall, I just haven't had time to keep up. And while I got some anguished mail wondering why the producers didn't intervene to try to save Flower, I regard the show as a nature documentary, not a docu-drama, and even though I imagine some children may have been watching and were unprepared t ...

Before we get started, lemme just say that I got a new tattoo last night and it’s quite fetching. Red circle with a star in the center on the inside left forearm. Even the artist dug it.
