Matt Frewer Takes Eureka to the Max

Within the strange, genius-populated little Northwestern town at the heart of Sci Fi Channel's Eureka (Tuesdays at 9 pm/ET) resides Jim Taggart, the off-center "dogcatcher" who specializes in the critters, creepies and crawlies born of the burg's bizarre scientific experiments. TVGuide.com spoke with Matt Frewer (aka Max Headroom for my fellow children of the '80s) about his stay in Eureka and the series' "aggressive multiplatform media initiative." Premise: Innovative cult fave about a reporter and his computer-generated alter ego in a futuristic society in which TV sets can't be turned off. The title character originated on a music-video show in England, but takes on a whole new life in this series that's enjoyable on several levels. Most satisfyingly, `Max' is a caustic sendup of the medium, but it's also an imaginative foray into science fiction and an old-fashioned, good guys vs. bad guys tale.
