Weekend TV: Rosemary's Baby, Penny Dreadful and Remembering Murphy

The devil made them remake it. What other excuse can there be for NBC's glossy but laborious two-part revisiting of the Ira Levin supernatural classic Rosemary's Baby (Sunday, 9/8c, concludes next Thursday)? Perversely scheduled to begin on the evening of Mother's Day, this unnecessarily expanded miniseries version owes a huge debt to The Omen for many of its telegraphed shocks.

Maude is looking forward to a smart dinner party but Walter gets home late, takes a nap, and wakes up grumpy and ready to battle. All Maude wants from Walter is a little friendly enthusiasm, advice as to which dress she should wear and, above all, reassurance that she will be the most beautiful woman at the party. Walter's cooperation stops considerably short of Maude's goals.

Outlaw's David Ramsey: Justice Isn't Red or Blue, but Someplace in the Middle

If Outlaw's Cyrus Garza is on one side of a case, then best friend Al Druzinsky is on the other — even though they're on the same team. David Ramsey, who plays Druzinsky, tells TVGuide.com that although Garza, played by Jimmy Smits, may be conservative and Druzinsky liberal, the new NBC series is not about Red States vs. Blue States. Premise: The popular---at times controversial---`All in the Family' spin-off headlined by the anti-Archie Bunker: the indomitable, outspoken and passionately liberal Maude Findlay. Politics, of course, was a heated topic in many episodes. But the most memorable ones addressed such social issues as alcoholism, mental illness and abortion with intelligence and compassion. Bea Arthur received Emmy nominations for several years, finally winning in the 1976-77 season as Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series.
