The Biggest Loser gang are back for an eighth season, this time with a "second chances" theme. Last season's heaviest contestant, Daniel Wright, returns to the ranch to finish his weight loss. The other 15 players are new to the competition and include a social worker, who is the heaviest player in Biggest Loser history; a youth pastor; and a teacher, who has endured a terrible tragedy. In tonight's premiere, the contestants visit Dr. Huizenga for a preliminary health assessment.

Melissa's first "real" date turned out to be her last one with Luke, and with potty-mouthed Lauren getting the boot as well, our hefty hunk is now down to his "sexy six." This installment features a day at the beach, plus some dancing and (this being a reality contest) plenty of wine drinking, but the ring ceremony that follows won't exactly be a day at the beach for two of the gals. The promo seems to be promising agita involving Mandy, Kristian and Tali, but we shall see.

Heather's regurgitation strategy seems to have worked for now. So did Lauren's cattiness. (Not only was Luke not offended, but he sent two gals she dissed packing!) And, in the end, Kristian's groveling ("You're the perfect man") did the trick as well. All three remain among the 12 left standing tonight. It's prom night, an evening of no small psychological significance for many heavyset folks. There are also two one-on-one dates, and at the ring ceremony, Luke reduces the field to eight.

Think of ABC's The Bachelor — only more so. You got it, romance fans: a dating show for the rest of us, at least those of us who think twice before getting into a bathing suit. Bachelor impresario Mike Fleiss is behind the series, and the bachelor who'll be looking for more to love, Luke Conley, did play football — on the offensive line — before going into real estate. And according to the 2005 Allan Hancock College Bulldogs 2005 roster, he tipped the scales at 270 lbs. Plus-size model Emme is the host.
