Lost: Recaps

Lost Episode Recap: "The Incident"

On the season finale of Lost, both Jack and Locke are working toward very specific goals that they think will change everyone's future on the island: Jack wants to detonate a hydrogen bomb that could potentially erase the crash of Oceanic 815, and Locke wants to murder Jacob, which, in his mind, will restore logical order for those remaining on the island. I won't spoil how it all goes down way up here in the first paragraph, but here's your SPOILER ALERT, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER if you haven't already watched the finale and don't want to know what exactly happens during "The Incident." But I will say this. Over the course of the two-hour finale, we see how the previously unseen Jacob has actually interacted with all of the Oceanic 6 (minus Aaron and plus Locke and Ilana) before. Jack gets an unexpected assist from Juliet in his efforts. Several main characters are in mortal danger at the moment of the thump. And Locke finally comes face to face with Jacob. Plus: Vincent, Rose and Bernard are all safe and sound!

Lost Episode Recap: "Follow the Leader"

On Wednesday's episode of Lost, a newly energized Locke seeks out Richard Alpert's help in 2007 with some very interesting errands. Back in the Me Decade, Jack and Kate help Eloise Hawking understand how she came to kill her own grown son, and Jack convinces her to fulfill Daniel's dying wish. Sawyer and Juliet, whose cover is blown by that pesky surveillance video, make a shocking decision about their future on the island.

Lost Episode Recap: "The Variable"

Dan is a man with a plan. After weeks of questioning what exactly Daniel Faraday knows or doesn't know, and whether or not we should trust him, Wednesday's episode of Lost, the show's 100th, gives us a peek into that complicated brainiac's melon, and what we find out is scary to contemplate. It seems that Daniel wants to prevent the folks at the Swan station from drilling, because it will release a dangerous amount of electromagnetic energy, killing many and launching a series of events that will eventually cause the crash of Oceanic 815. To counter this, Faraday thinks the best course of action is to detonate a hydrogen bomb. Come again, Daniel... while I pick up the pieces of what was once my staggeringly capable brain, read on!

Namaste, y'all! Let's get the Daniel backstory out of the way before we cover Operation Boom-Boom Island Bye-Bye, shall we? (Brain not quite working still. With any luck, my college roommate wasn't lying when he told me that Newcastle Brown Ale contains important brain-enhancement properties.) Onward!

Lost Episode Recap: "Some Like It Hoth"

Namaste, y'all! Wednesday's episode of Lost was Miles-centric, and I, for one, anxiously anticipated its arrival. I was gagging for more information about this fascinating character, as embodied by the skilled Ken Leung, whom I've admired since his scene-stealing turn as Uncle Junior's unhinged buddy in the booby hatch on The Sopranos. We did get some answers, but perhaps more than any other recent episode, we were presented with a few more nagging questions. Let's start with the answers: We learn how Miles ended up on Widmore's freighter, why his nose bled during the flashes and why this episode's title contained a pointed Star Wars reference. As for the questions "Some Like It Hoth" raised, well, let's get to it!

Lost Episode Recap: "Dead Is Dead"

Namaste, y'all! Wednesday's episode of Lost tells the story of Ben's atonement for his many sins, but one in particular: causing the death of his "daughter," Alex. We learn how Alex parted company with her mother, Danielle Rousseau, and came to live with Ben, what caused the bad blood between Ben and Widmore and what exactly the good ol' smoke monster considers a fair punishment for Ben's ethically dubious nature — and how that punishment affects the newly resurrected John Locke. As usual, I've shuffled the narrative for easier deciphering.

Lost Episode Recap: "Whatever Happened, Happened"

Namaste, y'all! Wednesday's episode of Lost was about truth-telling. It was bound to happen. One of the Oceanic 6 had to crack. But who knew it would be truth-challenged Kate? In 1977, she is motivated by her newfound maternal instincts to save the life of a child, even if that child grows up to be Benjamin Linus. Circa-2006, Kate visits Cassidy, Sawyer's con-woman former girlfriend, to honor his pre-helicopter-jump wishes. And in 2007, we learn what happened to Aaron, and why Kate decided to return to the island.

Lost Episode Recap: "He's Our You"

Wednesday's episode of Lost centered on Sayid, as we learned how he became a killer, how he ended up doing the bidding of Benjamin Linus and how Ilana managed to get him to board Ajira Flight 316. The new Dharma recruits settled into their groovy new lives, but it was not without tension as Kate and Juliet squared off over Sawyer, Sawyer tried his best to play double agent and Jack and Hurley sampled dipping sauces.

Lost Episode Recap: "Namaste"

On this episode of Lost, Sawyer (aka Jim LaFleur) continues to play heroic leader by scrambling to convince his Dharma buddies in 1977 that Jack & Co. are new recruits rather than time-travelling Lostaways. Meanwhile, the rest of the passengers on Ajira Flight 316 sort out their situation — including Ben and Sun, who both find reason to head back to the main Island. Throw in some Lost mythology, the naming of Amy's baby, and some new Sawyer nicknames, and you've got one packed hour. Let's get to it.

Hey everyone, Mickey, your regular guide through all things Lost, had a few too many pints for St. Patty's yesterday and slurrily informed us that he was going to look for the Smoke Monster. We haven't seen him since. (Just kidding, he's on vacation this week.) So, I, Adam Bryant, will do my humble best to step into his Dharma jumpsuit until he returns next week. Now, on with the recap...

Lost Episode Recap: "LaFleur"

Namaste, y'all! Wednesday's episode of Lost continues the story of what happened to those remaining on the island, ping-ponging between the moment when Locke left the island and the moments leading up to the arrival of Ajira Airways Flight 316. We learn what happened when Locke turned the frozen donkey wheel, what the Dharma Initiative was like in the 1970s and what the heck LaFleur is.

Lost Episode Recap: "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham"

Namaste! Wednesday's episode of Lost fills in the time gap between when Locke leaves the island with Christian Shephard's help via the frozen donkey wheel to the time when "Jeremy Bentham" dies. We see Locke's unsuccessful attempts to convince Sayid, Kate, Hurley and Jack to return to the island. Plus, we have new Others! Like Ben and Juliet before them, the sinister, clearheaded Caesar and Ilana have a mission, it seems, but they're unlikely to be forthcoming about it any time soon, what with all the pointed questioning and firearms. I also have a few theories! So let's get to "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham," shall we?
