Top Chef Masters
10/9c Bravo
The culinary contest turns on the heat as we start dipping into the last course. (The season finale airs next week.) All eyes are on the remaining four food fighters — Rick Bayless, Michael Chiarello, Hubert Keller and Anita Lo — when they whip up meals while blindfolded. Afterward, the chefs must cater a large event, but the challenge comes with a catch: They are forbidden to handle the food, and must instead tap into their teaching and leadership skills. Assisting them are erstwhile Top Chef contestants, including the fiery Dale Talde, who evidently gets into a dishin'-and-dissin' duel with Chiarello.

American Idol
8 pm/ET FOX
Which singers have a mojo for Motown? Our toned-up and tuned-in Top 10 mowed down Motown last night, singing classic R&B staples in a tribute to "50 Years of Motown." But America has the final say, the votes are tallied, and the contestants will discover who goes and who stays (but probably after an irritatingly placed commercial) in tonight's supplemental results show. The Motown theme will continue with genre giant Smokey Robinson performing, and past Idol winner Ruben Studdard rendering his single "Together."

I just watched the wonderful ...

Question: I just watched the wonderful Live from Lincoln Center presentation of The Light in the Piazza. I was wondering if the program is eligible for Emmy nominations next year (especially Victoria Clark)? They definitely deserve them! Answer: I would imagine the show and the Tony-winning Victoria Clark would be eligible. (Brian Dennehy was nominated for his performance in the Showtime presentation of his Tony-winning work in Death of a Salesman.) I've seen Piazza three times in person, and thought it translated quite well to TV. I'm glad to have a permanent recording of Clark's work in particular. One of the most romantic scores I've heard in ages. Glad you caught it. ... read more
