Violinist Gil Shaham performs Jean Sibelius's “Violin Concerto” in a New York Philharmonic concert conducted by David Robertson. Sibelius's 1903 D-Minor work, his farewell to 19th-century Romanticism, headlines a program that also includes Sibelius's “Swan of Tuonela” (featuring Thomas Stacy as English horn soloist), Stravinsky's “Firebird” Suite (1919) and “Sorcerer's Apprentice,” by Paul Dukas.
