First Aired: January 22, 2003
“Perlman at the Penthouse.” Violinist Itzhak Perlman performs with 31 of his students in a chamber concert at Lincoln Center's Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse. The students, who are between 11 and 18, study at Perlman's summer program on New York's Shelter Island. “There's a great feeling of family” there, Perlman says. Part of the reason is that everyone participates equally---there and in this program, which includes excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Serenade for Strings, Bartok's Divertimento for String Orchestra, Bach's Concerto for Two Violins and Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins.
