The New York City Opera updates Giacomo Puccini's verismo opera “Tosca” from 1800 Rome to Mussolini's Fascist capital in this production sung in Italian with English subtitles. The melodrama interweaves the destinies of the prima donna Tosca (soprano Amy Johnson), her lover Cavardossi (tenor Alfredo Portilla) and the sinister police chief Scarpia (baritone Mark Delavan). Telecast from Lincoln Center's New York State Theater. George Manahan conducts; Beverly Sills is the TV host.
