Do you have any information ...

Question: Do you have any information on Life Is Wild? I read on another website that it got canceled.

Answer: I'm hearing the cast has been informed that it's over. The CW, however, insists that no decision has been made. I'll do my best to get to the bottom of this and get you some kind of firm answer…. Oh, who am I kidding. This is Life Is Wild we're talking about. I've already spent too much time on this subject.

OK, that's a wrap! As I casually mentioned at the top of the column, AA is going to be on hiatus until Jan. 7 on account of the holidays. But never fear, I'm not disappearing from your lives completely. Over the next few weeks I'll continue to update my Ausiello Report blog with breaking news and other assorted ra read more

Everwood, Deadwood Stars Each Find a New Life

Stephanie Niznik by Ed Araquel/ABC

Let the fall-season recasts continue. Stephanie Niznik, best known to TV fans as Everwood's Nina, is taking over the role of the wife/mother on the CW's Life Is Wild, replacing Judith Hoag (who played the part in the pilot). Just last week, the family patriarch was recast with Hidden Palms' D.W. Moffett. Also per the Hollywood Reporter, Brent Sexton (aka Deadwood's Harry Manning) has been added to the series-regular cast of the new NBC drama Life, playing the former partner of Damian Lewis' wrongfully imprisoned and now back-on-the-force lawman. read more

Veronica Mars Star Vamps It Up, More Casting News

Jason Dohring by Patrick Ecclesine/The CW

Jason Dohring, aka Veronica Mars' love-to-hate-him/hate-to-love-him Logan, has found another role with some real bite to it. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Dohring is joining the new CBS drama Moonlight as Josef, an ancient vampire. Interestingly, Dohring is replacing 60-year-old Rade Serbedzija, now that the character has been reconceptualized as a young and mischievous hedge-fund trader.Speaking of fall-TV recasts, Hidden Palms' D.W. Moffett (a TVGuide.com celebrity blogger) is joining the CW's Life Is Wild, replacing Brett Cullen as the relocated-to-South Africa family's pop.Moonlight is slated to air Fridays at 9 pm/ET, Life Is Wild Sundays at 8. Is the upcoming Wild at Heart ...

Question: Is the upcoming Wild at Heart on the CW the same show that just finished up on BBC America on Saturday night? Granted, I might be just another put-out Veronica Mars fan, but I wonder why the CW would bill something as a new show when it just completed a run on American television. Overall, I have to say that I am less than impressed with what the CW is offering next season. Do you think there is hope for it to become a competitive network? Answer: It's the same premise (a family moves to a South Africa game preserve), but the CW's Life Is Wild is an Americanized adaptation of the British Wild at Heart — not the same show. I imagine the CW hopes this will target the same family audience that embraced 7th Heaven for a decade. We'll see. Overall, while I've been awfully hard on the CW since its inception, I've got to say that some of its new shows (Reaper and Aliens in America in particular) are among the brightest and most promising of any network in the fall. New Bionic Woman Deemed Family-friendly

The new NBC series Bionic Woman and Chuck, as well as the CW's Life Is Wild, have earned a thumbs-up from the Family Friendly Programming Forum, whose mission is to promote the development of programming appropriate in theme, content and language for adults and children. According to the Hollywood Reporter, this fall marks the first time the FFPF has an approved program airing each night of the week (meaning minus Saturday, which literally nobody seems to care about), with the new options joining the ranks of Ugly Betty, Brothers & Sisters, Notes from the Underbelly, Friday Night Lights and Everybody Hates Chris. But Bionic Woman, really? Methinks someone at the FFPF actually fancies two hot gals duking it out in a nighttime downpour. read more

The CW Tries Out a Brand New Personality

A year ago, the former stars of the WB and UPN found themselves uncomfortably mingling on one stage for the first upfront of the new CW network. They looked like the kids at the wedding of two single parents. This year, the CW took a step toward developing its own personality, shedding the aging Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars (the longest-running unsuccessful show in prime time) and All of Us (the weakest link in its lineup of urban sitcoms). The network is even taking the teen out of teen-angst drama One Tree Hill. When that show returns in mid-season, the characters will have been fast-forwarded to their lives after college. The network is replacing All of Us with Aliens In America, a comedy about a Muslim exchange student coming to live in Wisconsin. It looks funny and a little provocative. Who would have thought the CW would have the first sitcom to deal with post-9/11 attitudes?Tuesday at 9 pm brings Reaper, about a slacker whose parents sold his soul to the Devil, played with a br... read more
