ABC's first late-night talk show featured a `shotgun' microphone that enabled the studio audience to interact with the guests. Host Les Crane lasted just several months before being replaced by guest hosts (and the series was retitled `Nightlife'). But Crane was back in June 1965, joined by co-host Nipsey Russell, and he remained in the host seat until 1967, when Joey Bishop took over.
