This second 'Law & Order' spin-off focuses on New York detectives known as the Major Case Squad, which handles high-profile and unusually difficult investigations. Its storytelling differs from the original series in that it presents the criminal's perspective as well as the deductive methods used by the cops. Starting with the 2005-06 season, Chris Noth and Annabella Sciorra alternated episodes with Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe as the lead detectives.

    Relentless multitasker Jamie Foxx takes on emcee duties for tonight's awards, which honor musicians, entertainers and athletes. The O'Jays are this year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, and Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean receive the Humanitarian Award. The night, of course, is chock-full of music performances, including the highly anticipated return of Maxwell, who has emerged from a lengthy stay out of the spotlight. Kanye West, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo and many others are also scheduled to perform.

    MATT: I on the other hand have taken a shine to "Suliet," so it is with some glee that I tell you that there will be a bit more idyllic "playing of the house" as well as a little smooching! before the action-packed ramp-up to the May 13 season finale. It kind of makes you wonder to whom Kate might turn since Jack, I am hearing, is going to only become more unlikable.

    Please bring Heroes' Daphne back.  She was a super hero, and her complex personality and fantastic look made her one of my favorites. Cordialea

  • Summer TV Shows on NBC: Criminal Intent Is Back; The Philanthropist Arrives | Today's News: Our Take | 3/12/2009

    The snow's barely begun to melt, but NBC is looking ahead to warmer months already with the announcement of the network's summer TV schedule.

    Along with the sunshine, June will bring with it a bevy of season finales, series premieres and other seasonal kick-offs to mark on your calendar. Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order will wrap up their seasons on June 2 and 3, respectively (both at 10 pm/ET). Law & Order: Criminal Intent's season premiere arrives soon after, on June 8 (9 pm/ET).Shows usually close seasons during May sweeps, but NBC is hoping the June wrap-up will boost Conan O'Brien's Tonight Show debut, premiering June 1.  

    New series will also bow, starting with The Listener June 4 (10 pm/ET), which stars Craig Olejnik (The Timekeeper) as a telepathic EMT, and Merlin — about the mythical magician — on June 21 (8 pm/ET). Ex-Party of Fiver Neve Campbell and Rome alum James Purefoy debut June 24 (10 pm/ET) in The Philanthropist, which depicts a playboy-turned-vigilante-do-gooder.

    USA Network declares that "it is reclaiming Sunday nights" by pairing the venerable Law & Order: Criminal Intent with the fresher-faced In Plain Sight, starting April 19.

    Season 8 of Criminal Intent will air Sundays at 9 pm/ET, followed by Season 2 of In Plain Sight (starring Mary McCormack as a U.S. Marshal working in the specialized branch of the witness protection program).

  • Law & Order: Criminal Intent Pushed Back to Summer 2009 | Today's News: Our Take | 1/21/2009

    New episodes of Law & Order: Criminal Intent won't air until summer 2009, according to a USA Network spokesperson, the second such delay in four months. The eighth season was initially scheduled to debut in November 2008, just three months after Season 7 aired. Then, in October, the netlet announced the season would shift to early 2009, presumably January, so they could air all 16 episodes in a row — the same reason they cite for this latest push-back.
