Okay I must admit, I had this episode on in the background tonight because I wanted to see how Logan was going to leave after all these years, but hearing the name BOTTNER like every two minutes pulled me out of retirement from this blog to recap it once last time. I mean that was just too weird a coincidence don't ya think?
So after 18 years since Logan interrogated his witness, tonight we witness Detective Mike Logan's last case. The episode opened with a priest hearing the final confession of a man who says he committed two murders in The Bronx in 1992. The priest we learn was a friend of Lennie Briscoe's (played by the late Jerry Orbach), so Logan has to track down Briscoe's old partner. The problem with that is, the priest is still bound by his vows even though the murderer died after confession so he is no help to Logan.
The ADA was certainly not happy that Logan and Wheeler were digging into the Bottner case of a triple homicide that has been closed for 16 years, especially not when she stormed in and told Capt. Ross that Logan just had a vendetta against her and the department better be careful. I am still convinced she hired the hit on the priest in prison, and was the one digging around in Wheeler's fiancé background. Who else thinks that arrest at the end had something to do with the ADA?
In the end Logan, accuses ADA Driver of having taken 16 years off an innocent man's life to make her mark- that she had witnesses lie on the stands and withheld evidence. ADA Driver countered back with a threat of,
"If you take to trial I will have your badge."
Capt. Ross was not happy that the paper is all over the news, and Logan tipped them off. Logan seemed pleased that the ADA was coming after him. Logan goes to the priest to get an apology since he was hanging onto his vows and making Logan's life turn upside down. In turn he made Logan look at his self and his life, leaving him to believe he should 'get out' and see 'the other world out there.'

I was really disappointed with the ending. Did anyone else think there was going to be more pomp and circumstance about it? I was starting to think that power hungry ADA was really going to take his badge, but apparently not or at least yet. So I guess we will have to wait until the first episode with Wheeler and Jeff Goldbum to see what happened to Logan kind of lame ending for someone that was on the show 18 years or maybe it will be left open for him to come back?
