Season Finale: "Frame" Season 7, Episode 22

So much happened before the opening credits I knew this was going to be a great episode. We see it was Goren's mothers birthday and he is surprised to find a photo of him and his brother as kids left at her grave. In the opening we also see Goren's brother Frank at a support meeting, then later in his apartment drugged out when a knock at the door revealsGoren's arch nemesis Nicole Wallace ( Olivia d'Abo ) ! After not reaching his brother on the phone the night before Goren decides to go to the apartment of his brother only to stumble upon a crime scene that has his brother as the victim. Preliminary police reports say Frank committed suicide by taking a nose dive out his apartment window. Eames and even Captain Ross investigate further into the case, and we learn from Dr. Rodgers that Frank was murdered by given a drug to stop breathing. Nicole sends "Bobbie" flowers at the precinct sealed with a kiss as a signature with a note that reads, "Oh, this is the poison of deep grief." Now, thinking back to my literature courses, I recall that this is said by Claudius in Hamlet, Act 4 referencing how the grief of the death of Ophelia's father had clouded her mind. Was Nicole trying to say that all the grief in Goren's life had clouded his mind? Goren's mentor Dr. Gage( John Glover ) is hospitalized for his life being threatened by an attempted poisoning by Nicole presumingly. Captain Ross is reluctant at first to let Eames and Goren look further into the investigation involving Nicole, but let's them proceed based on the fact that she jumped bail three years prior. Of course Goren's white whale (as in Melville's classic Moby Dick) sends him and Eames on a multi-state scavenger hunt. Nicole was always a clever one, leaving word at every stop Goren and Eames made before they ever got there that they would be arriving. When visiting the only person she ever carried for Goren was presented with another message from Nicole, this one a picture of his nephew with the words- "tit for that, blood for blood" written on it. When they arrive at a B&B in Pittsfield, Massachusetts (the birthplace of Moby Dick), they find that the honeymoon suite is waiting for them along with a package addressed to Goren from Donnie. I was worried the show was pulling a Prison Break and going to have Donnie's head in the box, so I admit I was kind of relieved just to see a heart in the box. Now all signs pointed to that being Donnie's heart, so it was quite a shock to hear Rodgers say it was Nicole's heart. I was with Goren the whole way she had to be playing us; she was still alive as Goren said "she has nine lives" right? Dr. Rodgers confirms that Goren is the son of a serial killer, and Captain Ross at this point is starting to think that Goren could be the main suspect much to the upset of his partner Eames. Eames has no choice but to take on the task of looking into Goren as a suspect to clear his name- and is taken aback by the finding that Frank had a life insurance policy for $500,000 naming the beneficiary as William Brady which we know is Goren's undercover name. I have to give Captain Ross credit (or is he just crazy?) for going after Goren in his office for being a suspect and a killer. That was an intense scene. Not sure I would go up against loose cannon like Goren. "My father was a killer, so I am a killer now too?" It was clear that Goren was being "gas lighted," but by whom was the question. Dr. Gage is brought in for questioning again after facts about his daughter that he mentioned to Goren before did not add up. As Goren talk to Dr. Gage it becomes clear that he was the one setting Goren up, and that murdered (if she really is dead) Nicole. Dr. Gage explains how it all happened: his new book was about female serial killers so Nicole would seek him out, then Nicole, with a push from Gage, did kill Frank, and then Gage says that he did kill Nicole; who's last words were "tell Bobbie he was the only man I ever loved." "I wanted you to engage again so I gave you a puzzle to solve," Dr. Gage told Goren, and expressed that he was the son he never had. The season ends with Goren getting a clean slate? What an emotional rollercoaster that finale was. What did you think of the episode? Are you wondering like me if Nicole is really dead? And this really really concludes my Law and Order: CI recapping. It's been fun. Can't wait to see what happens next season with a new cast member and unresolved story lines. Premise: This second 'Law & Order' spin-off focuses on New York detectives known as the Major Case Squad, which handles high-profile and unusually difficult investigations. Its storytelling differs from the original series in that it presents the criminal's perspective as well as the deductive methods used by the cops.
