Vanessa Marcil is playing a nanny, but not the naughty type. Rather, the Las Vegas alumna took a gamble by turning things around and playing closer to her true bookworm self in the Hallmark Channel movie The Nanny Express (premiering Saturday at 9 pm/ET).
Marcil plays Kate Hewitt, an aspiring teacher who finds herself caring for the two children of a widower (Brennan Elliot). Can Kate succeed where the previous "run-out-of-town" nannies left off, all the while tending to her ailing father (Dean Stockwell)? And might she find love with her new wards' dad along the way? After the jump, Marcil shares a look at why she chose this different role.

Question: What were your thoughts on the second episode of My Own Worst Enemy? I basically agreed with your opinion on the pilot, but I thought they gave us more background, key information and layers in the second episode that made it watchable. Although they did sweep your question of "why would they keep the Henry facade intact" under the rug by simply saying they can't take out the chip, they did provide a little bit of motivation for these characters to maintain the illusion. But more importantly, I thought the issues brought up in this show were a great improvement over last week's basic straightforward "guy finds himself in strange situation in alternate-persona's life." Henry's discomfort during the torture scene was interesting to me, as was his desperation to find something that proves his existence isn't fabricated. And the murder of the doctor at the end of the episode was compelling as well, clearly showing Edward as a cold-blooded assassin who must "protect the mission." I thought your review of the pilot was fair, but was just curious if you saw improvement in the second episode. — Joe

Right now, Gary Scott Thompson, as the show runner for NBC's Knight Rider series (premiering Sept. 24), is focused on turning K.I.T.T. into an even leaner, meaner crimefighting machine. But sharing some bandwith with that mission is the idea of giving closure to the Las Vegas fans who saw their series hurried off the air as a casualty of the WGA strike. Has the ship sailed as far as hope for that goes? "I dont think so, as far as myself and some of the cast members are concerned," Thompson told me during a detour from an in-depth look at the new Knight Rider. "We're actively trying to figure out how to do something."Thompson says that Josh Duhamel and Molly Sims are particularly interested in spelling out what became of Danny, Delinda and their baby. "I talked to them both the other day, and they said we should do something. It was their characters that were really left hanging, and they were very upset by it."While one possible fix would find Thompson, Duhamel and Sims simpl...

It's a sad world where Las Vegas' reliable Mike gets second billing behind Rosie Perez. Yet that's what happened last week at the TCA press tour, when NBC trumpeted the guest-casting of the sometimes polarizing Latina on Lipstick Jungle, then virtually added, as an aside, "Oh, and James Lesure, too."How does the Vegas vet fit into the Jungle's sophomore season? Sources tell me Lesure will be playing the role of Griffin, boss to both Kim Raver's Nico and Brooke Shields' Wendy. I'm also hearing that over the course of Lesure's multi-episode run, Griffin might strike up a certain chemistry with Nico, though it might not necessarily lead to (her busy) boudoir. What do you say, Vegas fans? With Josh off doing Transformers 2 and the reunion movie pretty darn squashed, are you glad to see "Mike" back on TV? Matt Mitovich

Thank you all for the outstanding response and terrific questions. On with this week's buzz! Lois fans from Smallville have one request: Throw us a freakin' bone here! Please tell us she will finally be in every episode in Season 8. LukeMatt Mitovich: Would that I could, Luke (and the scores of others seeking such assurance). But at this point I am hearing that Erica Durance's sitch remains "the same as always" that is, she'll do 13 or so episodes though there is a slight chance we may eke out an extra one or two. Small consolation, I know, but you should understand that delivering 22 episodes' worth of Lois... well, like Denise Richards, it is complicated. I read your columns all the time. Do you have any Grey's Anatomy scoop? BethanyMitovich: Flattery will get you everywhere
but in this case, only a date: June 25. That's when Grey's starts filming the new season. Will the NCIS season finale re-air? It got deleted on my DVR. BarbMitovich: R...
