Question: I was recently rewatching the seasons of The Larry Sanders Show when I couldn't help but notice how many of the featured celebrity guests had tragically passed away — all well before their time — in the decade since the series came to a close. (It was especially difficult seeing Chris Farley do what he did best.) One particular instance of the "show-within-a-show" had John Ritter, Gene Siskel and Warren Zevon appearing as guests on the same night. I know it's a grim topic, but I wanted to ask if you had a particular fallen star from recent memory whose work is never too far from your mind (including the work they might have gone on to do)? I know Bernie Mac will always be at the top of my list.
Answer: It's sad when any of these great talents die, but isn't it good to know that TV will always keep their legacies from being forgotten? No question that Bernie Mac was taken too soon, and John Ritter is another very poignant example. But for me, when I think about T ...

Jeffrey Tambor by Cliff Lipson/CBS
Jeers to Welcome to the Captain for wasting the talents of Jeffrey Tambor. The guy costarred in two of the greatest sitcoms of all time, Arrested Development (as felonious patriarch George Bluth and his hippie-dippie twin Oscar) and The Larry Sanders Show (as unctuous sidekick Hank Kingsley), but he's stranded in CBS' laugh-free new dud as washed-up ex-Three's Company writer "Uncle Saul." (Captain can't even figure out how to make an in-joke out of the fact that Tambor was on the jiggle-com's spin-off, The Ropers.) But don't lose hope, Tambor fans: Possibly due to the success of the Jason Bateman/Michael Cera vehicle Juno, there's talk of an Arrested Development movie. As Hank Kingsley used to say, "Hey now!" Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Katie Couric's Q&A of Hillary Clinton, Lipstick Jungle and more! Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board. We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or i...

I'm going out on a limb this week, and I'm choosing a DVD set I haven't seen for my "Pick of the Week" (minor mix-up at the PR firm) - Not Just The Best Of The Larry Sanders Show. Though this is a dreaded "best of" release (please, please continue with the series in seasons sets), there are tons of bonus materials on the release. Garry Shandling is joined by Peter Tolan for commentary on two episodes, with Todd Holland and Judd Apatow doing one episode a piece. There's a documentary about making the series, deleted and extended scenes, alternate takes, and interviews with Alec Baldwin, Ellen DeGeneres, David Duchovny, Tom Petty, Jerry Seinfeld, Sharon Stone, Jon Stewart, Carol Burnett, Penny Johnson, Wallace Langham, Scott Thompson, Janeane Garofalo, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Sarah Silverman, Jeremy Piven, Bob Odenkirk and Linda Doucett. Those special features join 23 episodes of the series on 4 discs. The only thing that would make this set better? Well, that would be the rest of the seas...
