July 2, 2007: Balancing Act Season 2, Episode 4

Sorry it has taken me so long to get this posted. I've had a busy few days at work. For those who don't realize, I am not a full-time writer for TV Guide. I consider it a perk and I enjoy it, but my real job has a way of sometimes getting in the way. At the start of the episode, Kyle is talking about how he needs to try to balance his life between the demands of Foss and the Tragers. We see him disappear very early to go run steps. Later on we see him walking over poles/boxes while carrying 200 pounds, then climbing something similar to a rock wall. Yes, all this stuff is important for physical fitness, but I am not sure what purpose that really has in "training" Kyle's body to match his mind. Kyle's abilities seem to be linked to stress, or adrenaline. When the adrenaline starts to flow, Kyle can do extraordinary things, like walk through fire without getting burned or making an impossible leap. Steven's company was purchased all of a sudden, but he does not know by whom. Doesn't that sound strange? Steven is out of a job. Which is odd - typically at his level, employees are given special contacts and incentives to stay at least for the transition period. It is interesting that supposedly they were all let go. Was it Madacorp, the firm that owns Zzyzx? That would make sense if they are trying to destabilize the Tragers and force them to have to let Kyle leave again. The conversation about the car for Josh and Steve being out of work was fun. I picked up on it right away, and so did Kyle. Steven starts to worry about being like his father and breaking promises. Kyle reassures him that he is not like his father, and that he is a great father. We are learning more about Foss' past. His wife and daughter were killed by a drunk driver, and the driver was him. Kyle goes on to tell Foss that he knows when he is not being truthful. Josh is obsessed with getting his first car and he is so not a car person. Five thousand horse power? Geez, he is such a geek. What is so cool about that car? That car must be as old as Steven. Maybe Josh is obsessing because he feels abandoned by his best friend Kyle. Declan and Lori. Declan was there, he has things to say, but Kyle got in the way again. And Declan just had this overriding need to follow him to the abandoned warehouse where he is working with Foss and then do a Web search on Tom Foss. Yes, Declan is way obsessed with Kyle and Foss. Someone is watching Declan, but I do not think it is Foss. Lastly, the song that Kyle plays is fantastic, but it is also very depressing. show less
